At a forum organized by the Japan Institute of International Studies, President of the Japan Global Peacebuilding Association of Japan, Mr. Sukehiro Hasegawa, noted that, as stated clearly in the Constitution, Japan should pursue gaining an honorable position in the international community even though the chances of Japan becoming a permanent member of the UN Security Council has decreased.  In a discussion moderated by Ambassador Kenichiro Sasae, Chairman of the Japan Institute of International Studies, the participants shared various viewpoints on the role and limitation of the United Nations in light of the dramatic global situation, the main issues before the UN General Assembly this year, and challenges Japan faces in the United Nations system On the issue of the United Nations, Professor Motohide Yoshikawa, former Ambassador of Japan to the United Nations and Professor Sukehiro Hasegawa, President of the International Peacebuilding Association of Japan shared their views and perspectives.

 最初にトランプ大統領、安倍総理、マクロン大統領やグテレス国連事務総長が国連の役割と課題に関して行った演説の内容について討論された。そして、安保理改革、北朝鮮問題、シリア問題、中東和平問題などの安全保障問題、難民・移民・人権問題、国連の平和維持活動、維持可能な開発目標(Sustainable Development Goals: SDGs)、気象変動(e.g. パリ協定の将来)、国際貿易(制裁の連鎖とWTO体制の危機)、そして、コフィ・アナンとグテレス事務総長の国連安保理改革案に関して討論された。
