Ishii Lassalle expressed respect for efforts to use the UN and great-power diplomatic frameworks to resolve conflicts and build peace. He argued that reading all of Article 9 shows it calls on the legislature and cabinet to practice “adroit diplomacy.” Multilateralism, he said, stands opposite nationalism or grievance-driven egoism—it is a posture of coexistence, and we should move forward together despite difficulties.

Full Statement (English Translation)
“I extend my respect to all who strive—together with the UN and within great-power diplomatic frameworks—to resolve conflicts and build peace. I am here to learn and to contribute.
The Social Democratic Party seeks to ‘bring Japan’s Constitution to life’ by translating its ideals into institutions. Article 9 is often discussed only in part and in security terms, but reading it in full reveals a call on the Diet and the Cabinet to conduct adroit diplomacy.
The term ‘multilateralism’ may be unfamiliar, but when rendered as ‘many countries acting together,’ its importance becomes clear. It is the opposite of nationalism or grievance-driven egoism; it is a stance of coexistence. Though challenges abound, let us join forces and move forward. Thank you.”
